    Hey Walt, hope you’re feeling better real soon and getting back at it. Just wanted to let you know shot my first Milky Way last night. Never really thought about Astro photography until I stumbled across your channel a couple months ago. Having recently retired I gifted myself a new R6 and the Rokinon 24 mm f1.4 thanks to your inspiration. I’m really excited to get back out there and get some more.

    Hi, I have a similar setup with the same guider on my camera's L bracket. Do you find it hard to find a balance point with it throwing off the center of gravity? Are these imbalances too much for the skyguider? I'm worried about damaging the guider

    I realize I'm a bit late to this party, but I found out that hooking up a mobile holder to a horse shoe adapter and sticking it on top of the camera (where the flash would go), booting up an app that shows up the start based on the phone's direction helps a ton with finding and identifying stars fast.

    I will follow this processing this Weekend. My only question if you can help me is: I did three sessions for the Orion. three different nights but with same settings on the camera. I took Darks, Flats, Bias, too in all nights. How should I deal with DeepSkyStacker? Do each night separately or all nights in one go? If I do them separately I will end up with 3 stacked photos. Should I stack them together? Thanks

    I have been to Bisti several times. It is a wonderful place. I have learned to use my Garmin GPS to put in the coordinates to places I want to find. I go out in daylight and come back in the dark by following my outbound track. Also, there is a power plant in the distance when you are back in the flat area looking in the direction of the parking lot. Just walk towards the power plant lights in the distance.

    • @deltaastrophotography
      @deltaastrophotography 6 дней назад

      @@chuckclark1762 I remember seeing that power plant at my regular campsite. I ended up camping in an area where I couldn't see it anymore but could still see the light pollution from it. I'm definitely getting a Garmin before I go back out there again. I love that place so much!

    I was learning so much from your video and enjoying your content a lot! While I'm still enjoying your video, I've been left with an inescapable quandary for which I may never receive an answer: if "getting the fastest exposure possible" is the primary objective from a technical stand point, then why on this our third rock from the sun are you setting ISO to 100? If it's too bright then simply increase the shutter speed, you were only at 1/60th in the context of the footage? Set ISO to 200, or if you have some real balls 800, and then set shutter speed to 1/600th instead? Am I missing something? Yes, I understand how ISOs work, but it's the 2020s guys. Noise has been fixable for a while now.

    • @deltaastrophotography
      @deltaastrophotography 6 дней назад

      With the moon the lower ISO is less about noise and more about dynamic range. That being said you are correct in that raising the ISO is a better option especially with longer focal lengths. My latest moon shot was taken hand held at ISO 16,000. With Lightroom's AI noise reduction it was pretty much noise-free.

    Nice video, informative. Have you ever thought about using Siril and Affinity for processing, instead of pay for software. Just asking from a cheap beginner perspective.

    • @deltaastrophotography
      @deltaastrophotography 7 дней назад

      If I didn't have PixInsight, Siril would be my go-to for deep sky processing. It's really great software. As far as a Photoshop alternative, I haven't really tried much. For every one GIMP or Affinity astro tutorial on RUclips there are probably 100 Photoshop tutorials. And the same goes for plug-ins. There are so many great plug-ins out there for Photoshop. The $10 a month kinda sucks, but I have friends that spend that daily on coffee. Photoshop is WAY cheaper than that!

  • @Byaltair
    @Byaltair 8 дней назад

    And another question, do you think using a selection tool instead dodge/burn (white/black) would have been easier to merge two images together or more complicated? What's your experience?

    • @deltaastrophotography
      @deltaastrophotography 8 дней назад

      It really depends. On an image like this where the sky and foreground were taken at dark site at about the same time, it would be easier to just make a selection and turn it into a mask. But when shooting the foreground at blue hour or when the moon is out, the sky replacement tool really helps with balancing colors. I should probably make a video showing all the different ways you can blend. There's no right or wrong way to do it as long as it turns out looking good.

  • @Byaltair
    @Byaltair 8 дней назад

    Great video mate! A question, when you combined the two images, it appears that a lot of stars around Milky Way gone purple/pink again and a lot more of them like before the reduction, do you reckon?

    Hey Walt - great video. Suggest downloading a walking/tracking app on your phone. You don't need a cell signal as most support offline maps. If nothing else, you can then leave breadcrumbs on the app so you can find your way back - or you can retrace your steps if you found a good spot. We use this type of thing in Australia for our walks/adventures, where you can't risk getting lost out in the bush.
